She directly asked me about it...is it time to start?

Oh hi, yes, things have changed over here!

We are shifting away from Running For Real branding, and more towards the sustainability side of things, which is where my heart is, my passion is, and my strengths lie.

I don't have the new website ready to show you yet, but it's close, and we are excited.

Racing For Sustainability is building; we have five runners representing us at the 2025 Bank of America Chicago Marathon (well, six, if you include me!), and we are looking into opportunities for next year. More below. If you have a race in mind, let me know, and I'll get to it!

My work in sustainability is developing. I feel very strongly that my purpose, my role in this world, is reaching towards the moment it matters most. My daughters are currently watching a show on Apple TV, Jane, about a little girl who tries to save the world. It is created by the Jane Goodall Institute, and of course, is inspired by Jane Goodall herself. In that show, they address topics like hopelessness and feeling like you don't matter. I feel inspired every time I watch it.

Which is why I feel so passionately that it is time for me to really give it my best to connect on a human-to-human level, to shine a light on the ways we can feel like we do matter, that our choices do have impact. To help as many people as possible find purpose and meaning in their lives.

There are lots of opportunities to come join me this fall, details below, but for now:

A few days ago, I met up with Sarah Crouch, USA bestselling author of Middletide, former co-host of For Realisodes (on the Running For Real podcast), and former professional runner. Sarah and I have known one another for 18 years, and have been there for one another through many different stages of life.

As we bounced around topics, from deep secrets to political landscapes to funny things children do to how our training is going, as only good friends can, she asked if I had thought about writing another book.

Trust an author to bring up books, ha.

It is something I have thought about a lot. I have an idea, something I want to dig into and go for, something I feel I have a unique perspective to be able to speak to.

And yet, that topic, building bridges (figuratively 😉) feels too broad. It's not just for runners, it's not just for sports, it's not just for sustainability-minded people. It would require me stepping outside my box, my lane, my arena, and writing a general book.

Sarah loves the idea and believes in me; she made that clear.

There is a big part of me that does want to write that book, even if it never sees the light of day. Even if it sells 25 copies. I feel I have something to say, to get on paper (Word doc) about how we all can be and need to be bridge builders during this time that we are islands disconnected from one another.

Still, there is something safe about writing it for yourself, writing it to market only to the running community, the place I know people see my strengths, see where I come in.

There is something a whole lot scarier about going broad. It could fail, and realistically, without a stroke of luck it probably wouldn't go very far at all.

But don't I tell people every single day that all we can do is our best, that we have to find our own way that we can be a light for others, plant seeds in others?

To do your best means that, and by not pursuing this writing in some capacity, am I doing my best?

No, not really.

Our ability to be bridge builders in our own way is something I feel deep within my core. We all have a role, we all have an opportunity to make our world a little better.

So do I write? Or do I (as I have been) continue to make excuses and not find time for that creative part of me to come out?

I guess I am sharing this to try to hold myself accountable, to show you that I too struggle to get going on a project that I claim is important to me. That really, when it comes down to it, fear is what holds me back. I know this book is within me, and I won't know how good it can be unless I do it.

Is there something within you? We can do this next step together.

We got this.

Climate Week

Next week, I am excited to head to my third New York Climate Week, and will be attending climate-related events, as well as being on this panel about climate leaders in sport with New York Road Runners.

It is a middle-of-the-day event, so maybe that helps you (or makes it harder) to attend if you live in the city, but if you are able, would love to have you join us.

Racing for Sustainability at Big Sur?

We were so excited to have close to 100 runners apply to run with us at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon or email us to ask for a spot, and it has given us inspiration and momentum to build towards 2026 to see what we can do.

One of the races you asked for?

Big Sur.

While we are not going to be a part of their official charity program, we will have bibs for runners to fundraise for us at their 2026 event.

Big Sur sold out fast this year, so if you (or someone you know) is looking to run the race, and would like to fundraise for Racing for Sustainability, fill out this form by April 12th.

What race should we reach out to next? We know you want the other World Abbott Majors, what else?

(Seriously, reply; I would love to hear)

Next weekend Boulderthon will be debuting the first 10k to offer hemp bibs. It may even be the first race ever to use hemp bibs (but impossible to know for sure). One thing I know though, I am very excited to run the 10k myself wearing one of those hemp bibs that Boulderthon was bold enough to make the switch to.

Read more about the hemp bibs and this historic moment here.

Are hemp bibs the future? Maybe they could be, but I definitely think they are an ideal transitionary material away from Tyvek (that sits in landfills for hundreds of years). I am excited to see what develops next from here.

If you are going to be racing or are going to be in Boulder next weekend, would love to have you come join me for plogging during their shakeout run. It is the ideal gentle activity for the day before the race.

Speaking of plogging, here are two more plogs you can join me on:

Running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon? (Me too!)

Come celebrate Chicago, community, and connection (look at that alliteration!) with us the day after the race. It feels good to give back to the city that gave you such a beautiful celebration of running the day before. And we will go nice and slow, so it will help you (and me!) feel better, not worse.

Running the TCS NYC Marathon? (Me too!)

Our third plogging event is the day before the marathon, and if you wanna feel a part of a movement that is really having a big impact (at a time when things feel uncontrollable), this is it.

Thanks to our partner, AG1

As we head into marathon season, I am coming to my busy time of the year. I love it, I thrive on it, but I'll be honest, I often neglect myself during it. I push myself far past overstimulation. I don't get enough rest, and my eating habits certainly need work.

It is during this time that I rely on AG1 more than any other time of year, to be my insurance policy of sorts. To know that no matter what I do during these busy stretches, I am providing my body with a foundational nutrition supplement that now has even more added vitamins and minerals, and an upgraded probiotic blend. This next gen of AG1 (which, by the way, has three new flavors, Berry is my favorite!) is more comprehensive than ever, helping to support immune health, gut health, energy, and more.

Now clinically-backed with an advanced formula, this is the perfect time to try AG1, if you haven’t yet. I’ve been drinking AG1 for six years now, and I can't imagine my life without it.

Get a FREE bottle of AG D3K2, an AG1 Welcome Kit, AND 5 of the upgraded AG1 travel packs with your first order. For my friends in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe.

By now I am sure you have seen about Olympic gold medalist, Alysa Liu. There are so many ways to be inspired and motivated by her journey. Alysa and her four siblings all being born through surrogacy to a single dad. Her dad, Arthur, came to the US as a refugee due to his involvement in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. There is her absolute, unabashed freedom to be herself out on the ice. How refreshing it was to see someone with hair that did not involve an entire can of hairspray to pin...

I took a huge step this week. I went on a training camp. Something I have not done in at least a decade, more like 12-14 years. And what is a training camp you ask? It is typically where elite athletes go to a location ideal for training. For most runners, that means heading up to high altitude and doing some intense training. For me, the biggest piece was a period of time where I could focus on my training only...well mostly. Basically, a time where I am not juggling 16 roles and...

There is one weekend I look forward to every year. Okay, that's not exactly true. There are multiple weekends I look forward to every year (including the TCS New York City Marathon weekend and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon weekend, to name two). And even that... "Look forward to." I talk to my kids about there being good in every day, joy in even the hardest times. We can find something to be in awe of even in the darkest moments. Our planet, even if we can't see anything else...
